Following a government announcement, changes will be made to the Building Regulations. Parts F and L have been updated, while Part O has been created to help prevent overheating. The changes and introductions will come into effect from the 15th of June 2022. As a result, every window and door installation will be required to comply with the updated Building Regulations.
In terms of Part F, trickle ventilation is a key focus. The changes to the Approved Document F mean that all homes throughout the West Midlands and the rest of the UK will require trickle ventilation in each room.

It will also be mandatory when replacement doors and windows are installed. It will be a requirement in order to maintain and achieve FENSA registration, as well as abide by the Building Regulations.
Trickle vents are small openings in a window or door that help to allow a consistent flow of ventilation into a room.
While there is only a small amount of ventilation provided, they are effective because they work even when a window is closed. They can be opened and closed manually, with the small amount of airflow available helping to provide additional clean air.
Not only are trickle vents important in terms of compliance with Part F, but they also provide a number of benefits. With modern advancements in insulation, homes are often well-sealed which in turn creates the need for more ventilation.
A big reason for the introduction of the trickle ventilation requirements relates to the health and welfare of homeowners. The fresh, clean air that is able to be filtered into the home provides a big additional benefit to your health.
Trickle vents help with condensation issues that can be prevalent in a property. Preventing condensation means that mould growth is much less likely to be a problem.
The introduction of trickle ventilation can also help to lower the humidity within your home. They are also discreet and small, providing an effective benefit for rooms that are rarely used, as well as areas that are prone to condensation such as bathrooms and kitchens.
