Have you recently noticed condensation forming on your lounge window after recent low temperatures, or in fact any of the windows in your home? Condensation can have a big impact and is a bit of an annoyance, isn’t it?
Are you answering “yes” to these questions? Rest assured – a lot of our customers did too! So, here are our top fixes that you can do to prevent condensation. However, a long term solution is to replace your windows. We would encourage you to contact us to see how we can help you.
Internal condensation is the most common type of condensation and occurs because of two reasons: when there is too much humidity in the room, or when there is little to no air circulation.

In its purest form condensation is caused when warm humidity in the air meets a cold surface such as a bathroom mirror or conservatory window, and condenses from a gas to a liquid again, ultimately creating water droplets on whatever surface it has landed on.
Does your bathroom mirror get fogged up after you have had a bath or shower? Or perhaps you have noticed that your double-glazed kitchen windows get fogged up when you are cooking a delicious for your family.
Condensation is not so much of a problem during the warmer months when the temperature is more or less the same inside and outside of the house. It becomes a problem when the temperature outside drops to -4 Celsius, and we turn our heating up and keep the windows closed.
“But it’s only water”. We hear you say. But don’t underestimate it. On the surface, this bit of water may appear harmless, however, it can cause much larger problems such as black mould around your windowsills, health-related issues for you and your family or even in the most extreme cases, structural damage if not dealt with effectively and efficiently.
From most expensive to free solutions, here are our top tips to reducing condensation problems:
Purchase a dehumidifier
Although these can be costly, dehumidifiers work to remove water from the air in your home, ultimately reducing the dew point. If you keep the condensation above the levels of the dew point then you prevent the likelihood of moisture and condensation in your home.
Put lids on your saucepans and put your wet clothes out to dry

Putting lids on your saucepans when cooking while making good use of your extractor fans is a great – and even better, free – solution to stopping condensation from happening.
Open your windows, ideally on opposite sits of the house, to allow for cross ventilation and stop the humid air from travelling around your home.
Put your wet clothes out on your washing line to dry during the summer months or put them in your tumble dryer during the winter months as this will help reduce the amount of moisture.
A lot of us are guilty of putting them on a clothes horse, or even our radiators to dry. But, did you know that this is a big cause of condensation as the moisture from your clothes is simply being released into the air and adding to your current condensation problem? Putting them on your clothing line or tumble dryer helps to stop this problem.
While not as common in comparison to internal condensation, condensation can form on the outside of your double-glazing windows but worry not – this is a great sign. Our ‘A’-rated double-glazing windows help to reduce your carbon footprint, whilst saving you £110 a year on your energy bills.
However, if you’re still worried about condensation forming on the outside of your windows then a cost-effective solution to stop this from happening is to create more areas of shading, for example, planting tall trees or shrubs in close proximity to the window as this will help it to create its warmth.
